The vital link between the citizen and the law enforcement officer and/or fire personnel is the Communications Unit. This unit is headed up by a Captain who answers to the Chief of Police and Assistant Chief of Police with a staffing of ten dispatchers divided into three shifts. These dispatchers field calls from the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week, covering a full range of law enforcement services from dispatching routine parking related problems to life and death emergencies.

9-1-1 calls are answered in this unit with the appropriate emergency services personnel dispatched to the scene. It is the goal of the Communications Unit to assure citizens that their needs are met promptly and professionally.
